Organized youth sports on Sanibel Island dates back to the early 1970’s with long-time island resident, Dick Muench, setting the wheels in motion. Since then, youth sports have become a tradition on the island with Friday nights being a time when the community and families gather to watch our youth compete and have fun. We appreciate the community involvement and we could not operate without the parents volunteering their time.
In 2013, Sanibel Sports, Inc. was created in order to partner with the City of Sanibel to manage various youth sports seasons throughout the year. These sports seasons have included soccer, flag football, tee ball/baseball, lacrosse clinics, and summer soccer clinics. All of our sports leagues are co-ed with teams and divisions that are based on school grade and player ability. Depending on the sport, the age range of our players is from Pre-K (age 4) to 8th Grade (age 13).
Sanibel Sports, Inc. is an active 501c3 non-profit organization that is managed by volunteer residents of Sanibel Island. All of our coaches and team assistants volunteer their time to create a positive and educational experience for the players. Additionally, all of our volunteer personnel have had a background check performed by the City of Sanibel. For our full sports season (non-clinics), teams typically practice once per week with weekly games being on Fridays. Practice days each week are based on the volunteer coach’s schedule and is subject to change.
After a two year hiatus, we are very excited to revive our sports seasons. We appreciate your children’s participation in our leagues, and we always welcome parents involvement as coaches or assistants as well. Please contact us if you would like to get involved with Sanibel Sports, Inc.
